How to Pick a Procurve

If you're not familiar with the product line, here are some quick details to help you pick your Procurve!

• Looking for: Access Control with NAC
  Check out the new ProCurve NAC 800, part of ProCurve's network access control solution. CAD is one of only a handful of integrators certified on the new security solutions, including the ProCurve NAC and NIM (Network Immunity Manager).
   
• Looking for: An Affordable Full Layer 3 Solution
  For Your Core or Distribution Level.
  Try the 5300 series a chassis-based family with 4 or 8 slots. The new 5400 series provides the same features as the 5300, with the addition of higher density and Gig PoE. For more robust routing, look at the 9300 series.
   
• Looking for: Layer 2 Solutions with Basic IP Routing
  Some switches don't support full layer 3 routing, but offer internal routing and up to 16 static routes. For these, look at the new 4200 series (10/100/1000 chassis) as well as the 2800 (10/100/1000) and 2600 (10/100) series stackables.
   
• Looking for: Power Over Ethernet (PoE) Solutions
  For your wireless APs, VoIP phones and PoE mobile devices.
  Look at the 2600-PWR series for 24 or 48-port 10/100 PoE stackables. The new 5400 family is full Gig PoE and available in 6 or 12-port chassis. The 3500 series is a stackable that falls in with similar functions as the 5400.
   
• Looking for: Gigabit to the Edge
  For full 10/100/1000 to the desktop.
  Look into the new 4200 series (10/100/1000 chassis) for a variety of configurations and options. For larger networks, try the 5400 series (10/100/1000 PoE chassis). For an affordable stackable solution, try the 2800 series (10/100/1000).
   
• Looking for: Secure Wireless Solutions
  Look at the WESM (Wireless Edge Services Modules) available for the HP 5300 and HP 5400 series. The ProCurve WESM solution is a 'light' AP solution to let you control radio ports from a central management module and interface. 
   
• Looking for: Distribution/Aggregator
  If you need 10GbE uplink capability, look at the 3400 series (24 MiniGbic slots and 2 10GbE), 3500 series (up to 48 10/100/1000 PoE and 4 10GbE), 6200 series (24 MiniGbic slots and 2 10GbE), 6400 series (up to 8 10GbE and 6 transceiver slots).
   
• Looking for:  Bundles
  If you're looking at a chassis-based solution, be sure to check out HP's bundles. Bundles include a chassis and a preconfigured set of 2-4 modules. Bundles can save you money and offer more ports as well as provide an affordable means to have spare chassis and parts.
